Programme objectives

Students on the Human-Technology Interaction programme learn to develop and implement technical solutions to social and socio-cultural problems.

The focus of the programme is on the development of technology that seeks to meet the everyday needs of various living environments and which incorporates experts in relevant subject areas, affected individuals and the users of products in a participatory manner.

The objective of the programme is to thoroughly prepare the students for these varied challenges through a combination of the theoretical principles of psychology, technology and the social sciences, as well as through interdisciplinary practical projects.

Degree course content

The content of the programme consists of elements of psychology, electrical engineering and the social sciences. Each semester includes courses in the following fields:

• principles of social science, psychology and methodology

• health and sickness

• humans and technology in society

• natural sciences and technology

• construction and production

• practical project work

In the final semester the students complete a 12-week internship and write their Bachelor’s thesis.

Admission requirements

A higher education entrance qualification is a general prerequisite for admittance to the programme of study. International applicants must provide proof of educational qualifications that permit study in Germany (school-leaving certificate, certificate of university attendance).

The DAAD database on admission requirements allows international students to check whether they meet the requirements for the degree programme of their choice in Germany.

The language of instruction is German. Foreign applicants must prove they have adequate knowledge of German. Evidence of the necessary German language skills can be provided in the form of:

  • Goethe Certificate C1
  • DSD II
  • DSH I
  • TestDaF (minimun level 3 in the examination modules)
  • TELC Deutsch C1 Hochschule
  • ÖSD C1

Applicants who are unable to fulfil the specified admission requirements may contact a preparatory college (‘Studienkolleg’). These specifically prepare foreign applicants for a course of study in Germany. Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences does not have its own preparatory college. The state-run preparatory college responsible for our institution is located at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Köthen.
An overview of all preparatory colleges in Germany can be found here.
In Magdeburg you can find a private preparatory college: Europäisches Studienkolleg der Wirtschaft (ESKW)

Due to increasing digitalisation, technology is permeating every aspect of life today. The range of fields of application mean that people must constantly address new technology and examine its uses and influence on a wide variety of aspects of life. This concerns companies, agencies and public authorities, as much as medical and healthcare facilities, advisory and emergency services, and environmental protection and human rights organisations.

The core area of activity of graduates of the Human-Technology Interaction programme is the participative development of services and technical products used to support people. They can, among other things, work as product managers for the introduction of new technologies in companies in a wide variety of industries or public institutions. There is, for example, a large demand in medical technology and in organisations that are required to deal with the new technologies resulting from digitalisation.
