Programme objectives

The Master’s programme in Safety and Hazard Defence continues and extends the focal areas of study from the Bachelor’s programme of the same name: Students become qualified to carry out a variety of roles in the fields of safety and hazard prevention.

The course extends their expertise in theoretical and technical fields and in safety management and risk avoidance. For this purpose the course of studies equips the students for practice and research, thus enabling graduates to access a large number of job openings in the safety sector on completion of their studies.

A further objective of this Master's programme is to become equipped to apply scientific methods and to independently master the demands of a wide range of professional roles in applied practice, research or teaching.

Admission requirements

Admission to the Master‘s programme Safety and Hazard Defence requires a good or excellent university degree completed in the field of Safety and Hazard Defence or a strongly related field over a standard course duration of at least 7 semesters or at least 210 credits. Decisions on graduates in other subject areas and in case of doubt are made on a case-by-case basis by the examination board.

You also need a proof of an internships (16 weeks).

Please note, that the language of instruction is German. Foreign applicants must prove they have adequate knowledge of German. Evidence of the necessary German language skills can be provided in the form of:

  • Goethe Certificate C2
  • DSH II
  • DSD II
  • TestDaF (minimun 16 total points & minimun level 3 in the examination modules) 
  • ÖSD C2
  • TELC Deutsch C1 Hochschule

Applicants also need a proof of knowledge of the English language at the level B2.
