Department of Applied Human Sciences

The Department of Applied Human Sciences focuses on people at different stages of life and in different social contexts. Our teaching and research combine scientific findings with social and practical issues.

Three areas of expertise define the department’s profile: the maintenance and restoration of mental health; understanding and shaping the social context for young people; and the evidence-based development of areas of practice in early years education. This gives rise to a wide range of perspectives on rehabilitation, childhood, education and social participation – and opportunities to apply academic knowledge directly in practice.
