Excursion à Bruxelles! Experiencing European politics at first hand

As part of a field trip to Brussels, second-semester dual-track Program in Business Administration students gained fascinating insights into European politics and history. During hot summer temperatures, the program started with an interesting guided tour through the Belgian capital.

A special highlight was the visit to the European Parliament. Apart from a guided tour through the air-conditioned Parliament, the students had the opportunity to speak with a Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Jens Gieseke (CDU). In his talk, he spoke about his work at the European Parliament and answered the students' questions on current European issues.

Other highlights of the program included a visit to the House of European History and a visit to the Lower Saxony State Representation. Finally, the trip ended with a group dinner with Director Thomas Wobben (Committee of the Regions) in downtown.

Despite an outside temperature of 37 degrees, the field trip was an amazing experience for the students, allowing them to supplement their theoretical studies with practical insights into the workings of European institutions and to gain a better understanding of Brussels' significance as the political centre of Europe. Good humor, cool drinks, delicious fries and Belgian waffles helped to ease the heat.
