Department of Engineering and Industrial Design (IWID)

The IWID department is highly active in research. In line with current requirements and needs in the region, the research work carried out in the institutes focuses on the following areas:

  • Innovative technologies, machines, components and methods
  • Renewable resources / composite materials
  • Renewable energies

The cross-institute industrial laboratories, Innovative Production Processes and Functionally Optimised Lightweight Construction, plus the KAT Centre of Excellence for Engineering Sciences / Renewable Resources were developed to enable researchers to work successfully in their fields. Close and successful cooperation with regional and national industry forms the basis for this. Moreover, the research undertaken offers excellent opportunities to actively integrate students at an early stage in the research activities via projects and ancillary scientific activities. This is successfully pursued in the department.
