Within the framework of the Bologna process, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is actively involved in the creation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). It pursues the objective of creating transnationally compatible degrees which considerably improve cross-border cooperation and mobility; and it has undertaken to adhere to the fundamental principles and quality criteria of the Erasmus University Charter.

The University was early to make the transition from Diplom degrees to Bachelor and Master degree programmes. The introduction of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) facilitates periods of study abroad for German students and also makes it easier for foreign students to study in Magdeburg or Stendal.

Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences maintains contacts with more than a hundred universities across the globe. It is involved in around sixty exchange programmes and offers many courses of study with an international orientation. Students on all courses of study expressly have the opportunity and in some cases are required to complete up to two semesters of their academic studies abroad.

The Erasmus Programme plays a key role in the mobility of students and teachers.

Internationalisation is an interdisciplinary task embedded at all levels of the University. The underlying internationalisation strategy is essentially disseminated throughout the University by the Prorectorate for Academic and International Affairs, by the International Office and by the Commission for International Affairs, and continuously adapted to meet changing conditions. These bodies also help to coordinate the actions of the various stakeholders involved, give wider publicity to important individual activities, and channel competencies towards the common strategy.
