German-as-a-foreign-language courses for international students
Welcome to the teaching area "German as a Foreign Language"!We offer language courses at levels A1 to B2, based on the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).
PLACEMENT
Placement test for the winter semester 2025/26:

FEES
The German courses are primarily aimed at enrolled international students, doctoral candidates, visiting scholars and employees of the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal. The German courses are free of charge for this target group.

External students have to register by E-Mail as follows:
studium-generale@h2.de . We need the following information from you:
- Family name
- First name
- Gender: female/ male/ divers
- Name of your degree programme
- Certificate of enrollment or something that satisfactorily show that you are a student
- preferred placement date (appointment 1 or 2)
After successful participation in the mandatory placement test you will receive your binding course assignment by e-mail notification.
Prerequisite for participation:
- Mandatory participation in the placement test at the beginning of October;
this does not apply to students who have successfully passed a DaF exam at the previous summer semester at University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal or have participated in the Late Summer School in September.

Exceptions:
- this does not apply to students who have successfully passed a DaF exam at the previous semester at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences or Otto-von-Guericke-University (submit original proof).
- this also excludes students who participated in the Late Summer School at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences in September shortly before the start of the semester and received their placement in this context.
- Students with no previous knowledge of German can register directly for the A1 course by email.
Course format and place
face-to-face classes at the Magdeburg campus or online classes, depending on the course offered with 1 x 2 / 2 x 2 / 3 x 2 or 4 x 2 lessons per week
The courses are managed via Projekte.Moodle. Therefore, participants must register to Projekte.Moodle. A description can be found on the right on this page.
Assignments and enrolment in the courses is carried out by the DaF-coordination.
Requirements for successful completion
ECTS/ Certificate
- If all requirements are met, you can access your DaF grades in the electronic grade overview in the examination office. This only applies to students at University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal.
- If all requirements are met, you will receive a graded certificate with a recommendation of the corresponding ECTS points.
- If you do not meet the requirements, you will receive an ungraded certificate of attendance if you attend regularly.
- If certificates are lost, we charge a fee of 20.00 EUR for the duplicate.
